Refractive Surgery: LASIK, PRK, AST, ASA

“I can see and I don’t have my contacts in!”

“It’s amazing!”

“I can’t believe how easy it was!”

“Is it okay for me to cry tears of joy…because I can’t believe I can actually see without my glasses?!”

“Thank you!”

We hear these expressions of excitement regularly from our refractive surgery patients!

Refractive Procedures such as LASIK, PRK, AST, or ASA are performed to lessen one’s dependence on glasses/contact lenses.

Patients who are ideal candidates for these procedures must first go through a careful screening process.  We currently perform these screens free of charge.  The screening usually takes about an hour and your eyes will not be dilated.

Once someone has been determined a good candidate for refractive surgery, we will then get some pre-operative measurements of their eyes.  The pre-operative examination usually takes about 3 hours.  Patients see Dr. Bogart for both a non-dilated and dilated exam.  During the pre-operative exam all prescriptions are discussed and called into the pharmacy.  Instructions are reviewed thoroughly with the patient and all questions are answered.

Surgery is typically performed on a Thursday.  Refractive surgery is an in-office procedure.  Patients are usually at our office anywhere from 1.5 to 2.0 hours on surgery day.  The actual procedure takes about 7-8 minutes per eye.  The laser correction treatment takes only seconds per eye to complete! Most patients do not experience any pain during this procedure.  Many patients notice improvement in their vision immediately after surgery!
