You're finally at that point when you can implement some of the wisdom acquired from decades of "live and learn," and "trial and error" living. You're at the peak of your career or finally enjoying some "me time" after the kids have left the nest. You work out and feel fit and you're ready to take on the world. Unfortunately, your eyes don't know that 50 is the new 40. Bifocal or progressive eyeglass lenses and multifocal contact lenses address some of the vision challenges you face, but some days it just seems like there's got to be a simpler solution.
There is, and it's called Premium Intraocular Lenses or PIOLs. These tiny multifocal lenses are inserted into the eye in a procedure similar to the one performed during cataract surgery. The eye's original aging lens is removed and the new lens is inserted. This corrects presbyopia- or the inability to focus clearly up close, which typically occurs as people venture into the middle ages of life. People can also opt for PIOLs later on if they are diagnosed with a cataract. Whether the PIOL is implanted to correct presbyopia in your '40s or '50s or later on when a cataract develops, it can reduce or eliminate your need for glasses or contacts.
All PIOLs offer similar benefits: They help you see clearly at a variety of distances either without glasses or contact lenses- or with less dependence on them. There are different types of PIOLs. Here's a brief tutorial:
Multifocal IOLs offer a variety of designs that rely on multiple focal points or "zones" so you can see well at varied distances.
Accommodating IOLs mimic the eye's natural process of "accommodation," where the eye's ciliary muscle relaxes to accommodate distance vision and contracts to accommodate close-range vision.
The most popular Premium lens that Dr. Bogart implants is the TECNIS Multifocal IOL.
If you are interested in having a Premium Lens implant, please call our office to schedule an appointment. If you would like for us to send you a complimentary information packet, please let us know!
